Lately, I have been struggling with beauty products. Usually I would be filling all of you fashionistas in on what’s new in our area for you to get your hands on. But I think beauty products are what can perfect an entire look. Every woman uses make up whether they want to admit it or not and finding certain products that are right for you can be time consuming and expensive.
Personally, I have sensitive skin and an oily complexion. Finding powders and foundations and blushers are really hard to find because they won’t stick to my face, go with my skin tone, or cause my face to break out with blemishes or a horrid rash. But I think I might have found the holy grail of foundations, and what I believe is the best blush that’s on the market right now.
Most women start their daily routine with some kind of cover-up. I like to use a liquid based foundation to just cover my entire face so I don’t get to looking blotchy or multi-colored. My mother brought me home a bottle a couple of weeks ago on a whim because it was on sale. Rimmel’s clean finish mattifying liquid foundation is probably the ideal bottled liquid foundation. It’s available in 16 shades, and is naturally enriched with powders and minerals for shine control, and minimizes pores almost instantly to get a smoother look while keeping them clean and unclogged. This foundation is fragrance free and is made for all skin types that wears all day. Now I have to warn you, when you remove the cap and you go to use your fingers to apply from the little spatula (how awesome, right? You can scrape the bottle completely clean so no early runs to the drug store) the second you put it to your skin, blend and distribute thoroughly and fast because once it’s on it dries very quickly. But this foundation does not sweat off or dry in spots so I would recommend it to anyone since it’s sort of tailored to work for all complexions.
The next obstacle I’ve been able to tackle is blush. Blush is probably even trickier than finding the right foundation if you ask me. When you’re looking for something to fit your look you first want to consider what time of year it is, so if you’re someone that tans frequently in the summer consider going a darker shade than you normally would so you can see it over your tone and color of foundation.
You also have to think about what kind of stuff you wear makeup wise, if you’re the type that likes to have glitter in everything they possibly can like me then you want a bright and fun shimmery blush. The more conservative type might just want a normal pink based shade to brush over their cheeks, which I would only suggest to women with darker skin tones.
If you’re generally lighter and pale especially during the winter, don’t just buy a blush because you like the color itself, think about the color scheme you use and what’s going to make the apples of your cheeks look naturally kissed, not like you just got smacked or couldn’t find the right blush to fit you.
My newest purchase is the Coralista blush by Benefit Cosmetics. One thing I love about Benefit products is how long they last, their blushes have lasted me up to a year so it outweighs the cost by a long shot. The Coralista blush that was recommended to me by a representative at Ulta was $28, but it’s the perfect shade of peach and pink with a light shimmer that comes with a small mirror and natural bristle application brush in its little compact to give your cheeks a little touch of sunshine. I like this shade because it can work with an everyday look but can also be dressed up enough to work for night time as well.
The last thing I would also like to recommend to all my readers is mascara that I’ve been using for two years now. Maybelline’s Volum’Express Falsies Mascara can be picked up at any drug store in our area, which is usually on sale, or any sort of makeup vendor like Ulta or Sephora. I have tried every version of the last blast mascaras, including the length version that took me 10 minutes to even get some substances to my lashes, it was horrid. The Colossal and Great Lash mascaras are also comparable but usually require an eyelash curler for your best look. The reason I love Falsies so much is because it’s super light, but it still stays on my lashes all day and requires no extra work with multiple applications or lash curlers. The curve in the brush allows them to extend longer and separate faster to get the best lashes you can with what you have. My only complaint is it starts to flake after about a month, but the results are the best I’ve had so far. Stay away from Lash Blast Length and try Falsies, you will save so much more time in your morning routine and at least $8.
For those of you either not blessed with the long lash gene or just don’t want to invest in new mascaras, I would highly suggest trying Elf brand’s Eyelash Curler, it was given to me by an aunt recently to try out and I got better results than the Revlon one I had been using before. Elf Brand is one of my favorite brands to buy tools from, normal necessities like an eyelash curler or a spectrum of brushes and pads are only a dollar and work almost as good as the more expensive types so I would give them a try if you haven’t already. Target usually carries a whole section in their makeup department and you can shop Elf online as well.
