Boeding Buzz: Divergent

Boeding Buzz by: Jake Boeding
Another book franchise focusing on a female hero in a dystopian society is getting its own movie franchise to boot. This time it is called Divergent. Having not read the books, I was interested to see if this movie was worth the hype, it was not. The movie falls a bit flat and sometimes comes off as trying too hard to be the next Twilight or Hunger Games.

Don’t get me wrong; I think the plot is good. But, it is only good, not great. It is sometimes predictable and the ending makes you wonder how they are going to make an interesting enough sequel. The acting is also subpar, but isn’t anything that takes away from the story. Standout performance goes to Kate Winslet as the deceptive leader of society.

Now, I understand that I might be being a bit harsh, but this movie isn’t impressive. It might pleasantly kill a couple hours of a few peoples’ time. On the other hand, my sister, who has read the books, absolutely loves this movie. With that being said, Divergent receives two Buzz ratings. If you have read the books: MUST SEE. If you haven’t: FUTURE RENTAL.
