Trendy and Tasty with Sam Belcourt: Eden Alley

Blog by: Sam Belcourt
Eden Alley is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant on the plaza located at 707 W. 47 St. The building was built in 1989.
There are different menus depending on what time of day you come in; I went in around 3:00 so it was a late lunch but the menu offered plenty of choices.
Soy free, gluten free, this eatery caters to a specific clientele but that does not mean that all shouldn’t enjoy it, it should.
After scanning the menu a bit and finally making up my mind, I order the Brie cheese and apple on flatbread. But instead of Brie cheese I chose to substitute a cashew nut spread, as my new years resolution was to go vegan.
At first the combination of a cheese like spread with apple was surprising, the fruit was warm and with the ‘cheese’ seemed to melt in my mouth but the combination works.
The flatbread was perfect for scooping up the cashew spread that decorates the plate. This was a messy dish and I highly recommend using silverware and not just your hands!
I ordered a raw chocolate tart for dessert the base was coconut and the frosting was a combination of fruits and raw coco. To top it all off, were the mixed nuts sitting on top of the tart. Sweet and salty!
This is considered a sugar free dessert, but it tastes nothing of the sort! I would say this establishment is more of a special occasion sort of place, all ingredients are local and organic which adds to the price tag: my meal was $11 but I wouldn’t say that it’s fancy. More ‘hipster’ and ‘bubbly’ I will be back not just because I love the food but because there are over 20 different desserts here and I aim to try them all!
