I think many people have forgotten the meaning of Thanksgiving. It used to be all about spending time with family, and joining together and sharing what you’re thankful for; but now the focus is on Black Friday.
After hearing that Wal-Mart was opening at 8 pm on Thursday night, I thought it could only get worse from here. Soon enough, stores will be opening before Thanksgiving dinner, and everyone will be too focused on waiting in lines for hours than spending time with the people they care about.
Over the past few years, Black Friday has been the main attraction, and not the day before, like it should be. It seems people only care about getting good deals. I do admit that it can be fun shopping late at night when many people are there, but it shouldn’t be the story of the break.
The talk around Thanksgiving should be about everything you’re thankful for. Being thankful for your family, the house you’re under, etc. You should be thinking about the less fortunate that aren’t as lucky as you are. It is the season of giving, so people should be doing just that.
I don’t think people really take the time to be thankful during Thanksgiving like they used to.
