Freshman Outlook

Freshman+Outlook

I traveled around Oak Park high school and interviewed 5 different Freshman. Sophia Sander, Carissa Johnson, Reese Hill, Renee Franzi, and Nicole. I was surprised to hear how they all felt about high school. Not one of them said there first year of high school was going bad. They all had something different that they noticed wasn’t the same as middle school. One girl said they noticed we have lights for passing period instead of bells. Another girl said she believed in middle school you have more freedom in what you do and where you go. A girl said she noticed that we have different classes every day and in middle school you basically have every class every day. Two girls said that they noticed there was less rules in high school and the teachers are more lenient. The one I think I noticed first as a freshman also was that you have different classes every day and in middle school you basically had every class every day. Every student I interviewed said they liked high school better. One kid said it was because the teachers are more laid back, and another kid said it was because you have more opportunities to do things. 4 out of 5 students said there is nothing about high school that confuses them so far. One student said they were confused by the schedule and how switched up classes are. 4 out of 5 students said that they believe high school is a lot easier than they thought it was goanna be. One student said they already thought high school was goanna be easy cause it’s just a place you go for education. The first student said their favorite class was P.E. and lunch, the seco

nd student said ELA because their teacher Ms. Warner is great and Child development because it’s fun, the third student said treble choir and theater 1, the fourth student said theirs was physics because they do a lot of fun projects, and the last student said theirs was lunch. I asked the students what is something they are hoping for or looking forward to in their high school years. Student number one said to get good grades and succeed. Student 2 said they just wanted to finish their freshman year. Student 3 said getting through the year having good grades. Student 4 said homecoming. Student 5 said they are most looking forward to prom. All students said that there wasn’t really anything that they disliked about high school. Surprisingly not one student said that if they had the chance they would go back to middle school. One student did say that if you would have asked them earlier into the year they might have said yes but now that they are used to it they don’t want to go back to middle school. Overall, I think that Freshman are feeling pretty good about high school.
