Cars Can Be Art
FOCUSED. Senior Jimmy Cantrell focuses on the screen making any adjustments to beat and making sure the flow is smooth for the person in the booth to rap. On Thursday, Oct. 10, he started making this beat using the keyboard to come up with beat and flow to it. “When I am having trouble thinking of an idea for a song or a beat, I just mess around not trying to go for anything just see what I can make and try and build from it improving it little by little but what really helps is having at least one person hear to give me their input in making the beat,” Cantrell said.

Geometry studies for benchmark
On Friday, Oct. 18, sophomores Jaden Williams and Jesse Mayberry read in science teacher Kristin Price’s chemistry class. That day, students were asked to prepare their binders for the occasional binder check. Williams said, “One of my favorite parts of this class is definitely the binder checks like we did today. They help me to stay organized and keep my classwork in a safe place.”

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, NKC Schools student Ryker Nakahodo begins to shovel his driveway by throwing it atop a pile. He did all this in the hope that shoveling snow would earn some money. He also didn't want to change into winter gear because wanted to get out there and do a quick job. “Because I don't want my Mom to slip and die in the car or Silva [our neighbor]," Nakahodo said.

COMMUNITY HISTORY Junior James Mueller works on an assignment regarding the current project in AP Government. The goal is to create an interactive way for citizens to learn about the Declaration of Independence. “The possibility of the project genuinely being created and put somewhere in the community is fun,” Mueller said.
AP Government Challenges Creativity
On Thursday, Dec.5, junior Luke Robinett plays his bass looking toward his director Erick Theno. This is the symphonic orchestra, the elite of string instruments. They played “Plowing Through the Snow” at this part of their Christmas concert. Which is why there’s a Santa hat. “I thought we did really good,” Robinett said. “We’ve been working a lot on intonation, recently, which really, I think really helped. And then I think just kind of the work we’ve put in, we’ve all been on the same page, just working hard.”
Symphonic Orchestra Plays Holiday Concert
Junior Sierra Geary and senior Lilli Everley scream after their teammate scores on a layup during the preseason jamboree on Tuesday, Nov. 19. "I think that we have a great group of girls and we're working very hard. I think that we're gonna have a great year. with lots of results." The Oakies played their first regular season game Monday, Nov. 25 against Raytown and won the game 69-30.
