Oak Street brings home first

The Oak Street Singers went to competition recently and took home first place.  The competition was the State Fair Community College show choir competition, one of many to come and they are only working harder to improve on their show.

Chloe Pelham felt good about the competition.

“I improved my facial expressions in this competition.”

She also felt “pretty amazing” about winning and said it was “an explosion of happiness” when it was announced that they placed first.

Choir director Chris Droegemueller takes a lot of pride in the highest show choir, Oak Street.

“I think they did great for their first competition, they handled the win well without letting it get to their heads,” Droegemueller said.

He said when they won he felt that “it is going to set Oak Street up for good things later on” and that it “made them feel like they were on the right track.”

Oak Street has two competitions in February and Droegemueller thinks they need to work to clean up some mistakes and make the stunts and choreography stronger.

Peyton Cassity said, “We did well on the choreography.”  He also said that he “felt great” about winning first.  “We’re working on the show and cleaning up choreography.”
