Q&A by: Gabby Brancato
It’s almost peanut butter jelly time. Senior Deborah Dorman is working to set up a food drive with the help of National Honor Society to stock up food pantries for the summer. Northman News caught up with Dorman to discuss her service project.
Northmen News: What’s the name of the food drive?
Senior Deborah Dorman: “It’s called the Peanut Butter and Jam Slam.”
NN: Can you tell us a little about it?
DD: “Basically, it is a scholarship opportunity through dosomething.org where depending on how much food you collect you are eligible for a $4,000 scholarship, and the goal is to get as much food as possible. Food pantries during the summer don’t get as much food as they do in the winter.”
NN: How did you find out about it?
DD: “I look on dosomething.org a lot for opportunities and they had a big thing for it on there.”
NN: How are you planning on getting the word out about it?
DD: “First of all, I have to get it approved by [Mr. Joseph] Hesman, and I have to do that through [Mrs. Kimberly] Bennett, and then once that happens I’ll have posters up and hopefully something on the Axe, that kind of thing.”
NN: What’s your goal for it?
DD: “My goal is to collect 50,000 pieces which is a lot. It’s a big ambitious goal, and it’s unlikely that it’s going to happen, but it’s good to start big and see how it goes.”
