Q&A by: Ashley Sylvara
This year, a committee of students is working to bring back the tradition of after prom. Northmen News caught up with committee member senior Marvin Byas to discuss the committee and his work for it.
Northmen News: What is the After Prom Committee?
Marvin Byas: “It is a small group of students planning the event that will be following Prom on [Saturday,] April 13.”
NN: Why did you choose to get involved?
MB: “I thought it would be good to help and be a part of bringing back the tradition of having an after prom.”
NN: How do you contribute?
MB: “I assist with researching details about the event and I help make important decisions of the events that will occur during after prom. I also write the speeches and proposals the committee needs to present.”
NN: What is the committee planning currently?
MB: “We are currently finalizing the event space. There are a couple options such as some community centers and possibly a bowling alley.”
NN: Why wouldn’t after prom occur in the school since it is a school event?
MB: “It would not be at the school because we feel as if students would be discouraged to attend.”
NN: How do you plan to make it happen? What is the process?
MB: “We received funds from the activities budget, and we are in the process of making decisions such as what food will be provided, what activities will occur, and how much admission will be.”
NN: How do you plan on keeping the committee going after you graduate?
MB: “There is one junior member, Jake Bodeding, and he is encouraging more students to be involved.”
NN: Why do you think more students should be involved in the after prom committee?
MB: “More students should be involved because when there are not a lot of people in the committee we don’t get as much input and our decisions may not be in align with what the majority or the student body desires.”
