Q&A by: Gabby Brancato
The date for the annual Mr. OP pageant changed from Friday, March 8 to Friday, March 29. Northmen News caught up with junior Kelli Reichert, the leadership Mr. OP committee head, to discuss the change and why it happened.
Northmen News: Why did you have to reschedule Mr. OP?
Kelli Reichert: “The snow days took away two practices from the candidates, and when there is only four practices that is a big deal. So we knew the candidates would not be ready in time and we really wanted to have a good show, and as a group we agreed to push it back.”
NN: Besides rehearsals, were there any other challenges faced with the snow?
KR: “Well, the communication between the candidates and leadership was hard to maintain. We couldn’t contact them for a few days and at this point each of them still had lots of questions.”
NN: What were some challenges faced with rescheduling?
KR: “Finding a new date. We wanted to have it the Friday after spring break to keep it close but there are choir districts so we had to go to the 29th, which is a little further than we would like, but it works. The rest was routine: just changing the dates for the display case and on posters and windows. Rescheduling the candidate photo shoot and such.”
NN: Do you have any current concerns about the rescheduling and rearranging?
KR: “No, because it gave the candidates more time to prepare and really figure out their parts. It should be a great show this year. “
NN: What are you most excited about?
KR: “All the tie-ins we have to The Hunger Games. One of the things we are doing is a reaping instead of a walk out. I think everyone will really enjoy it.”
