Q&A by: Brooke Kelly
Northmen News: Who were you representing as Miss OP?
Abigail Henning: “Adaptive PE”
NN: What is your fundraiser?
AH: “Hosting a Volleyball tournament with the special education kids from North Kansas City School District.”
NN: How did you come up with this idea?
AH: “[Senior] Brad Perkins helped me with the idea and I wanted to involve the kids, it was more of a combined effort, but he was the one who said I should make a tournament involving Oak Park students.”
NN: How much money did you raise?
AH: “My event is this up coming weekend, its $6 to play and $3 to watch. I’m hoping for a good turnout.”
NN: How did you feel the game show went?
AH: “The game show was so informal which I loved. We all helped each other with questions, we went against the rules of staying silent and not telling the other girls the answers. I think that made it more fun for us girls. Some how I got stuck with a majority of the activity challenges.”
NN: What was the best part of your whole experience?
AH: “The best part of the whole night was bonding with those girls, we all came from different groups of friends, but they were all so kind and really calmed me down when I got nervous. I was very blessed to be up with some of the sweetest girls in our class, everyone that was up for Miss OP were all truly genuine girls. ”
NN: How does it feel to be Miss OP?
AH: “To be completely honest, its humbling. All the money everyone fundraised helped out my club, so it made me extremely happy to know that over $4,000 was going to Special Olympics. Several of the special education students I teach are in Special Olympics and it’s nice to know exactly where that money was going and how much that really helped them. I’m so glad to be Miss OP, and the first one ever. It makes me feel like I’ll be remembered years from now. [Senior] Montana Burris and I talked back stage that night about if our kids went to OP in the future and if they were up for Miss OP they could say their moms were the first candidates ever for Miss OP.”
