Q&A by: Samantha Behen
Senior Donna Jacks is kicking off a new club this year: Yoga Club. Northmen News caught up with Jacks to discuss the club, and how students can get involved.
Northmen News: What made you want to start yoga club?
Donna Jacks: “I’ve done yoga for a little less than a year and it has helped me so much in my life, having something to calm me down. It’s out of the ordinary and it’s good exercise.”
NN: What do you do at meetings?
DJ: “We get together and just do a workout from a yoga DVD. What we’re going to do is have people stay after and meditate if they want. It’s a place you can feel open and calm and just collect your thoughts.”
NN: How is yoga beneficial?
DJ: “It’s super awesome for flexibility and it’s even helpful for cardio stuff. It’s a lot of different workouts incorporated into one.”
NN: When does yoga club meet?
DJ: “At first it was just when me and some friends could get together. Starting next week, we’re meeting on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.”
NN: Who leads it?
DJ: “We just do videos unless people would also be willing to follow me. We do a video, and I know some poses we could do afterward. It’s really laid back.”
NN: Why should people come?
DJ: “You can meet new people, and I think it’s a really good experience to just try yoga and get to say that you’ve tried it.”
NN: Who can join?
DJ: “It has been a word of mouth type of thing, but anyone can come. I’d like to know ahead of time so we know you’re coming and make sure we have enough space. We meet in Mrs. [Sara] Albright’s room.”
