Monday, November 12th, marked the first Treble FX practice since their October performance at the OP choir concert. Treble FX is the all-women’s show choir at Oak Park. In show choir, the performers dance while they sing.
At the practice, the girls, “worked on our music and choreography for our performances,” said junior Mallory Dunn. They practice each Monday from 6-8 in the evening.
“We’re singing Forget You by Cee-Lo Green, Stronger by Kelly Clarkson, and Reflection [from Mulan],” said junior Aubrey Walker.
Their other song is “I’m A Woman.”
“I think we’ll probably add some new ones,” Dunn said.
Dunn also said their theme is “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar.”
“It’s all women empowerment,” Dunn said.
According to Oak Park vocal music teacher, Chris Droegemueller, “Treble FX will be competing at Columbia Rockbridge on January 12th and Harrisonville on February 9th.”
Oak Park’s Oak Street Singers will be competing along with the girls at these locations.
The performers of TFX not only have to learn music for their themed competition show, but they also have to take on new pieces for the vocal music department’s Christmas concert on December 11. Those pieces will include “Deck The Rooftop,” a mash-up from Glee, and “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,” a jazz piece made popular by Billie Holiday, Droegemueller revealed.
For anyone who would like to get involved, the group is selected based on tryouts. Girls who audition for Oak Street Singers and don’t make it are automatically in TFX. The rest of the ensemble is added in according to the top sight-reading and singing scores. The girls of Treble FX love what they do, but they admit it’s challenging at times.
“The best part is that we have a great time. We get to sing fun music and be with friends,” Dunn said. “But it’s tough to learn the music and then add choreography.”
Walker said, “It’s a lot of dedication and commitment, but I love coming together to sing and dance…and be awesome.”
