Q&A by: Megan Jeffries
At the first band competition of the school, Carrolton, on September 22, drum line was able to compete as their own ensemble. Northmen News caught up drum line section leader senior Andrew Hickman to discuss the competition.
Northmen News: Is it anew thing for the drum line to have an individual competition separate from the band?
Andrew Hickman: Yes. It is a totally new thing for us. We got our old percussion director back that has really been a driving force for me to help push the kids.
NN: How did the drum line do overall?
AH: Overall, point wise we took 3rd. But I feel like we performed really well as a whole. The crowd ooed-and-awed at some stuff and laughed where appropriate. But when we finished the gym erupted, it was a really great feeling.
NN: What was the best part of the competition for you?
AH: The best part would either be that or just hanging out with some of the best people I know for an entire day.
