For tomorrow’s homecoming pep rally, Leadership is trying out new changes. Instead of the rally taking place directly before the football game at the District Activities Complex, school will be let out early at 1:45 p.m. after the assembly, and will last until 3 p.m. Northmen News caught up with student body president and leader of the pep rally committee, senior Jen Stock to talk about the changes.
NN: What are some changes to this year’s pep rally?
Jen Stock: “This year, we’ve changed it to immediately following the assembly. [Principal] Mr. [Joe] Hesman said it was OK to get out of the assembly at 1:45 so we’re going to dismiss the entire assembly out to the pep rally. We’re encouraging them to come and they’re already here so they might as well come. We just want people to get pepped up.”
NN: How did this idea come about?
JS: “Actually, it was [activities director] Mr.[Casey] Vokalek’s idea. We kind of took it and he said he would help us out. We brainstormed a bunch of ideas and that’s what we came up with.”
NN: How have people responded to the changes?
JS: “I don’t think anyone can really say anything about it yet. I mean, it hasn’t even happened. People might say it’s not a good time because it’s not right before the game like normal.”
NN: As student body president, what are your personal opinions on the changes?
JS: “At first I was a little hesitant against it, like that’s not really going to work out and people are going to think it’s stupid. As we thought of a lot of ideas, and planning ways to keep people there, I’m actually really excited for it and I think it’s going to be a tradition that’s going to stay.”
NN: What are you most excited about for the pep rally?
JS: “I’m excited to see the student body get behind our football team. I know that we don’t have the best record, but I think the pep rally will help. We’re going to have the captains speak, and I want them to know that we still support them.”
NN: What are you most concerned about?
JS: “Setup. Setup, setup, setup. The assembly’s is going to be going on too. I’m in the assembly, a lot of the leadership kids have to be in the assembly, all the programs are in the assembly so setting up is going to be a time crunch for sure because it’s such a weird time.”
