On Friday, March 24, National Honor Society inducted new members for the next school year. Northmen News caught up with adviser Jillian Boman about the society and the next batch of recruits.
Northmen News: What is NHS?
Jillian Boman: It’s about leadership, citizenship, service, character, and scholarship.
NN: How can a student be inducted?
JB: The first requirement is to have a 3.5 GPA, fill out an application bragging about activities inside and outside of school, focusing on leadership, citizenship, service, character, and scholarship.
NN: How many students are being inducted into National Honor Society?
Jillian Boman: 31.
NN: How is NHS different from last year?
JB: Our meetings are different. Last year we met Fridays during Advisory, now they’re before school.
NN: What’s the meaning behind the candles at the induction?
JB: The motto of the society is light and the emblem is a flaming torch.
NN: Are there officers for NHS? If so, who are they?
JB: Chelsie [Yokum] is treasurer, Jessica [Nichols] is historian, Cameron Helmuth is vice president.
