Tortured faces. Photography. Personal stories. Mixed media. Comments on culture. Sculpture.
All this is in the library this evening. Here are a few thoughts from students who have experienced the show:
“Oak Park’s 2012 art show looks very stunning and fantastic. From a simple seashell to a dark dreading skull, all the art shows effort and soul. This show is recommended for all art-loving students and parents. This show will be great for those individuals who created the art and be encouraged to further their career in art making.” –freshman Joseph Miller
“This year’s art show really showed all the work that this past year’s AP art class put into making their paintings, sculptures and photos. All of the pictures had their own personality and told a little something about the artist.” – freshman Trevor Kirkman
“There are lots of wonderful arts to see. 2D arts, painting, drawing, 3D art, and photography art; they are amazing because they are creative, and I thought it was well thought out. My favorite art was the drawing and painting because I felt they were more real, and were really drawn from the hand of the creator. My second favorite will be the photographs, because they were professional; I felt some of them could be seen on book covers, on walls, magazines, newspapers, the internet and other places. I thought the 2D design with Andrew Wahl and Makayla Mobley was the best because it was professional. I think there’s more to come and see.” – freshman Istabella Davies
“This show really proved what the art students are capable of: amazing artwork. Every piece was displayed nicely and told a little about the artist responsible. The display boards were a bit crowded and could make it easy to miss a great work; but all around, the show really showed talent and is a great way to get artists noticed.” – freshman Chloe Minnick
“Every art piece is beyond interesting and filled with immense creativity and self expression with such a strong meaning that will make you think and relate to at least one piece.” – sophomore Margarita Araiza
“Sticking out is that many pieces in the art show are creepy. Skulls or depression seem to play a big role in a majority of the artwork. Moreover the different techniques that were used to create the pieces are very diverse and interesting.” – senior Eva Schmidt
“I thought that the art show was wonderful; there are so many exhibits and lifestyles that can be seen in the art. “Ghost” by Anna Minnick, “Corrupt” by Reanna Bowers, “Paint me in color” by Chloe Bechtold and “Yahweh” by Abbey Fish all caught my eye in particular.” – junior Eric Crump
“There were so many pieces of art work that stuck out to me; therefore I didn’t know who to vote for. There are so many things that catch your eyes when you walk through all of the art. Almost every piece of work had some sort of meaning behind it and it was all shown in the art. From pictures of family members, to sculptures of what an everyday person goes through, there was so much creativity. If you have the time to, I think you should go to the art show tonight at 5. You would be missing out if you didn’t.” –sophomore Alesia Heagy
“There were a lot of great sculptures. Every single one spoke about the person who created it. To see through the eyes of my peers would be a miracle. Each individual piece spoke for itself. I found the ‘Cruelty’ by Jessica Mateau breathtaking. To actually have to look at a piece for several minutes to understand the artist’s words is an amazing feeling, and I’m sure all those artists did their best and put all their hard work in; they all deserve a prize for creating things so beautiful.
“I believe everyone should go to the art show. I’m sure many people would be able to see through others’ eyes and realize there are a lot of things going on outside our school life. You’d get a great experience out of this show. Above all, the best.” – freshman Dominque Hernandez
“The artwork I saw today was all really good. I found it really entertaining to look at. I think everyone should go and look at it tonight, because you can buy some of it, and look at how creative people are. Some of the stuff looks very professional and neat. You should go and vote for the best artwork, or who had the best artwork. There is photography, painting, drawing, sculpting, you name it and it’s there. So go and have fun and look at everyone’s creativity.” – sophomore Sammi Arens
“The Oak Park art show was very creative. You can tell that every artist worked very hard on their art piece. If you go, you can see the very best out of Oak Park.” –sophomore Gabbie Kreutzjans
“There are many great pieces made by students. Awards will be given to the artists at 6 p.m. based on student and teacher votes. Cookies and punch will be served. Take a little time to come view the art show.” – freshman Camrie McKenzie
Students from the Fine Arts Department host the 2012 Art Show from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening in the library media center. The show, themed Color, shares student work from many courses in the department, taught by art teachers Mark Anderson, Lindsey Doolittle and Jaime Curtis.
