In preparation of the Sadie Dance, student council devotes time outside of the school day to decorate and plan. Northmen News caught up with student council sponsor Bryan Edinger to talk about the meetings.
Northmen News: Who is involved?
Bryan Edinger: The pizza and pomp is run by the leadership class, and it involves 15 to 20 of our representatives. They will also come and things get prepared.
NN: What takes place?
BE: During Pizza and Pomp we get together all the decorations that go on the side drops backdrops for the assembly. The back drop is what hangs behind the candidates during the assembly. The side drops go on the walls during the dance to kind of close in the gym a little bit. We also take care of a few other things like getting the banners ready for the assembly and basically just getting all the decorations ready for the assembly and the dance.
NN: Where is it held?
BE: We meet in C124. Once we’re there, and we kind of get to work, we go all over the building. We go in the main gym, C124, and the hallways so we can get everything prepared.
NN: How is the Pizza and Pomp beneficial?
BE: We don’t have enough time in the day to get everything done within the leadership class, so it allows us to get all of our decorations done. And with the side drops and the backdrops, they’re so big that you can’t unroll them in the hallways because during passing period, it completely blocks off the hallway. So we have to have access to the hallways when there’s nobody else in the building.
NN: How long does it usually last?
BE: They are from six to eight and on Tuesday the seventh it will be about two hours. Thursday is our last one before the actual assembly and dance so that will go till about nine. During Homecoming our second pizza and pomp we were here till about one a.m.
NN: Who is in charge?
BE:The students in charge are Riley Buckler and Amber Hemming. Their two groups are in charge of Sadie, therefore they’re ultimately responsible for all the activities that are done on pizza and pomp night.
