Last year and many years before, Adam Farley conducted the jazz band. But this year, jazz band isn’t a class, simply a club that meets early at 6:30 to rehearse for upcoming gigs. Farley gives his feedback to these new changes in this Q & A.
NorthmenNews: How long had jazz band been a class before it was just a before school club?
Adam Farley: Since 1996
NN: Why was Jazz band unable to be a class this year?
AF: Because not enough students had signed up, and the district has a set amount of students a class needs
NN: Did you see a problem with these reasons?
AF: Each class is unique and has different requirements so having a standard number of students makes sense but doesn’t necessarily need these.
NN: Who was let in to the band?
AF: The rhythm section was handpicked, but the wind wood section was welcome to anyone
NN: What is your favorite part of Jazz band?
AF: When students think they can’t do it (play jazz) but figure out it’s easier than it looks, it’s crowd pleasing
NN: What do you hope to accomplish this year with Jazz band?
AF: To spark more interest so more people will join, and give great concerts.
