Chiefs: Bridging the generations
If you live in the Kansas City area, you have probably heard about a few popular names. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and a handful of others. And if you have lived in Kansas City within the last five years, youhave maybe seen how strong they have been as a team. Making it at least to the AFC championship four years in a row doesn’t happen often.
As the past few years have shown, The Kansas City Chiefs have been successful in the last five years than they have ever been.
The Chiefs were established in 1959 by businessman Lamar Hunt. They did have some early success winning three AFL (American Football League) Championships between 1961 and 1969. And then they beat the Minnesota Vikings in Superbowl IV. But over the next 50 years, they didn’t get very far in the season. Then came Mahomes. Every year
Mahomes has been a starter, they have at least made it to the AFC championship game.
Teenagers today probably know the most about the Chiefs’ success. If a teen is 16 today, they would have been hearing about the Chiefs when they were in seventh or eighth grade. And because the Chiefs have been doing so well since then, teens have only seen the Chiefs be great.
Sophomore Brynlee Tucker said, “The division game against the Bills was the best. Oh my gosh, that was crazy. And I was there, and it was everything and it was a roller coaster.”
On the other hand, there are older generations that have seen the Chiefs struggle. They have seen when the chiefs have been at their highest, and they have seen them at their lowest. They have also seen them losing very difficult games.
Teacher Jana Burnside said, “The hardest loss I saw was this year vs. the Bengals in overtime.”
However, as said before, those older generations have gotten to see the Chiefs perform at their very best.
In conclusion, the Chiefs are currently in their primetime. With Mahomes as their starting quarterback, they have a good chance of getting far in the football season. When he has receivers like Kelce and Hill, he can score big touchdowns for the team. So, if someone is asking, “where can I see some good football?”, a Chiefs’ game is most likely a good idea.
