Administration offers incentives for good attendance

The attendance rate here at OP has been low as of late. Fear not, the administration is doing something about it.

Starting with the free admission to the Oct. 25 football game as well as a $3 coupon for the concession stand.

“I hope it motivate[d] people to come to school, we are going to try to do multiple incentives to increase student attendance, this being one of those things.” said activities director Casey Vokolek.

The administration has announced the upcoming free movie incentive it isn’t until the end of Nov. but many around the school are talking about it.

The movie choices are “Frozen,” “The Hunger Games,” or “Thor.” Students must maintain 92% attendance or better, receive no office referrals or any other form of disciplinary action, and must be passing all classes with no more than two Ds.

“People love free things,” said junior Chase Ballard.

The state has a requirement of 90% of students to be in attendance 90% of the time, when and if schools do not meet this goal they are in jeopardy of losing accreditation.

“Last year 77.9% of our students were in attendance 90% of the time, currently we have approximately 83% of our students at 90% or better attendance,” said assistant principle Chris Sartain.

Coming to school for some is not on the to-do list but with the future incentives, that may change.
