Homecoming is Upon Us

Homecoming is finally upon us and there is a week full of festivities to celebrate! Here’s what to expect:

The week of Monday, Sept. 11 through Friday, Sept. 15 is spirit week. Each day encourages students to dress in a different style, “tying into our theme,” said senior Emma Tran, “under the stars.”

Space Jam, Fly Me to the Moon, and Clone Wars are just a few of the “Under the Stars” themed days.

Most importantly during this week is buying tickets for Saturday’s dance. Tickets are $15 on the GoFan app starting Monday. Ticket sales close 10 a.m. Friday.

Wait, there’s more. This year’s Powder Puff game takes place Wednesday, Sept. 13, during Advisory. Advisory teachers can sign up interested students through Enriching Students. Juniors and Seniors can cheer for their class as their teams compete against one another. The girls will play a football game on the field as the boys cheer from the sidelines.

The most action packed day is Friday. Friday is, “blackout day, we have the homecoming assembly and the parade. And then after that we have our big game,” said Tran. School will be running on a half day schedule, dismissing students to the gym for the assembly at 12:30 p.m.. The assembly will wrap up at 1:30 p.m., students will then exit the building to watch the parade. All kinds of clubs and activities will be featured in the parade.

“We even managed to get Linden West Elementary fifth graders to get a float which is cool and new,” said StuCo member senior Bana Qaradaghi.

Later that night is the big homecoming football game against Truman, and a pregame tailgate starting at 5:30 p.m. Doors open to the game with kickoff at 7 p.m.

more like a community,”

Saturday night is the night of the dance. The dance will begin at 7 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m. The gym will be decorated to match the under the stars theme and a DJ will be playing accompanying music. Leadership seniors Caden Willmann and Ali Habila want homecoming to be inviting and fun for everyone, regardless of class.

They want to make it “feel more like a community,” said Willmann “I’m hoping that it is a lot more exciting.”
