Hispanic art is more than you think

They told us that our folks had no history.

We spent years proving them wrong.

We collected books, art and even letters.

Proving our art contributes to our culture and music.

A man immigrated in the U.S. And he joined the band.

But not as a musician but as an arching man

During the years of Harlem Renaissance

This man was in fact Puerto Rican but he took a stand;

No one joined him but with his passion,

Made people notice that we’re not just people.

We show who we are and how we do it.

Art isn’t just art for some of us.

Art is the way of life art saves us from the world.

It saves us from all the nonbelievers.

Proves our culture isn’t just culture, it’s the way of mi familia.

Hispanic art plays a big role in history from modern art to art years ago. Hispanic art didn’t just change the way we present ourselves, it changed history and kids’ lives.

But people mistake Hispanic art for gang names or graffiti. Hispanic art wasn’t made for that; it was made to show our culture to the world and show people we can do anything we want in life as long as we stick to it.

A couple of places to go find graffiti art are: Mural Mile, St. Louis Graffiti Wall, and #KC Loves painting. These are all places a lot of people like going to mostly cause there common, but it’s not just the writing or the color, it’s the truth that stands behind it.

In every graffiti art, there is a meaning. And that meaning could mean a variety of things. Just like a jawbreaker, there’s so many layers that it’s interesting, and you finally hit the core you realize all your hard work was for nothing. But it wasn’t, just like graffiti art when someone draws something they don’t do it just to do it — they do for the people, the culture and smiles.
