After school tutoring is Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. There is a least one teacher for every core subject to help get the work done. Also attending after school tutoring can help make up that attendance that you will need to get a 90 percent in all classes.

“It helps me to get my homework done and also helps improve my attendance,” said sophomore Alisa Brawner.

Brawner stays to get help with her chemistry homework.

Sometimes, students might just need that extra shove in order to have good grades.

“It helps me to actually do my homework after school because if I go home, I won’t do it. I will procrastinate a lot,” senior Audrey Roberts said.

“The [students] in tutoring, they do improve,” chemistry and physics teacher NeQuelle DeFord said.

DeFord is in the café every Tuesday and Wednesday for extra help.

Being in a classroom environment, students might not have the opportunity to work with teachers one on one. Teachers sometimes forget how fast they are going when teaching students.

“Teachers sometimes forget what it’s like to be a learner,” DeFord said.

According to DeFord, students can’t quite keep up and think the same as the teachers.

Having tutoring sessions after school, Deford said teachers are able to make better connections with their students.

Students can get help and better understanding even if it is from a different teachers teaching the same curriculum.
