Retiree: Librarian Patricia Stancil retires

In 20 years, you could read hundreds of books. Patricia Stancil definitely did, even though most of her time was spent in the library, finding books, helping students and creating a safe haven for the hundreds of students at Oak Park. Although only 15 of the 20 years she has worked as a librarian in the North Kansas City School District were spent at OP, the memories she has made are ones she will keep forever.
“My favorite memory would have to be students saying, ‘thank you for finding a book to me.’”
Senior Huso Rizvanovic said his favorite memory of her would be “Her always telling my friends and I to come back, because we had a two-week period where we just went to the library to study and hang out and she’d always do kind things like get us candy or Norman Nickels.”
Stancil said her plans after retirement include “Finishing the stack of books I have by my chair” and “to cook more than I do right now, which is very little.”
The entire staff and student body wish her luck on her next journey.
