Busy? Feeling overwhelmed? Try some of these tips

Some students tend to stay back and not do a whole lot of extracurricular activities. Others might get involved in one or two. But for those who don’t know how to say “no” become get involved in as much as they can. I’m that way.

Juggling sports, musical, clubs, community service hours, family and friends can be hard. It is easy to get caught up in the mess and drown in the chaos. You go out hard and fast but halfway through you can’t even bring yourself to get out of bed. It’s hard to get organized once you are in the eye of the storm, so here are a few tips on how to save time and energy without giving up.

  1. Keep a calendar on you and make sure you get everything you are doing in it so you know when you have a conflict before the day of.
  2. Make sure you have a way to contact people if there is a problem with activities. This keeps people form getting mad and helps to show you can take initiative.
  3. Lay out everything you need for the next day the night before. Clothes, shoes, makeup, homework, breakfast, lunch and a charged computer. This will save you at least 10 minutes in the morning by having everything ready.
  4. Shower and do your homework at night to save you from rushing to get everything done and to give you that extra 20 minutes of sleep.
  5. If you are getting home late due to a sport, do your homework on the bus so you don’t stay up until 3 a.m. finishing that math homework or English paper.
  6. Do your work in class, so you don’t have homework, and if you get stuck on a problem don’t be afraid to ask a friend or the teacher for help.
  7. If you don’t have any down time to make a healthy dinner, make them over the weekend and freeze them so all you have to do is take them out of the freezer thaw them and stick your meal in the microwave.
  8. Getting hungry on the run? Pack so easy and nutritious snacks to give you that extra energy boost. Fruit snacks or a granola bars are perfect for this.
  9. Check your grades at least once a week it check for missing assignments. This will keep you from having an unexpected zero and if you do talk to your teacher about it.
  10. Finally got the sniffles and can’t go to school? Email the teacher or text a friend for homework so you don’t fall behind in class.
