“State.”  That’s the word that all track athletes are striving for at the end of the season.  But just how do they prepare?

“I lift weights and I go running outside of school,” said junior Kaley Breault.  “When I do run, I usally will run three or more miles.”

Breault has gone to state two times for the 300 hurdles.  At meets she runs the 4×200 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay.  For hurdles she does the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

“I look forward to the BBQ’s, tie dying, meets, state and ice buckets,” Breault said.

At practices Breault works on her relays by increasing her speed by running hills.  For endurance, she runs 600’s.  She also works on her starts by practicing her hand offs.  For hurdles Breault does lots of drills to work on her form and she also works on speed for her 100 and endurance for her 300’s.

“The worst thing about track is the butt cramps, 600 meters, shine splints, ice buckets, the weather and sock tans,” Breault said.

Breault has been involved with track ever since middle school and loves it.  She is also involved with tennis and cross-country.

“I hope I will have a good season and make it to state again,” Breault said.
