It’s been almost a year since Haiti suffered the earthquake that has put the country in great need of medical, financial, and for others, spiritual support. When news went out that Haiti was in need of help, several organizations such as The Red Cross and other smaller organizations set out to help the disturbed nation. But when anyone thinks of an organization set out to help a nation, someone would usually think of adults, or other large organizations, but one group, about 10 high school students felt the need to help out the country and share their beliefs in order help the country’s people regain their faith. Oak Park junior Caleb Eissler, one of the members who went, had this to say before his trip.
NorthmenNews: How long will you be on this trip?
Caleb Eissler: We leave Thursday the 13th and get back the late on Monday the 17th, so 5 days.
NN: Why are you going on the trip?
CE: So that I can see how I can help in the summer; the same group will be going back in June for a longer time period so we can really help out, this trip is mainly to see what we’re dealing with.
NN: What drove you to go on this trip?
CE: I feel that God is calling me to do this, it’s destined to happen
NN: What do you hope to accomplish for yourself by going to Haiti?
CE: I hope to hear what God has to say about missions, and that I will learn more about mission trips for the future.
NN: Do you have any expectations of Haiti?
CE: No, I don’t really want to think about it, I want everything to be a surprise.
