“It drives me nuts. I turn the radio off every time they start playing Christmas music. I mean, c’mon, it’s just November,”said sophomore Allison Ng.
And she is not alone.
“I like everything about Christmas, but it kind of ruins my anticipation,” Sarah Reynolds, American citizen teacher, said. “And another sad part is that we skip all the decoration for Thanksgiving because we start Christmas stuff so early.”
A lot of people are really annoyed by this. They just returned their pumpkins to the basement when the grocery stores start to sell little chocolate Santas and play “Merry Christmas.” every time you go to the store to buy something. Christmas is a great holiday, really. Just not if you start it in the beginning of November.
“My family puts the decoration up after Thanksgiving, but I know that some neighbors start right after Halloween. It really bothers me,” junior Hannah Abke says.
Reynolds agrees .
“They shouldn’t put the decoration up before Thanksgiving; the week after Thanksgiving is perfect.”
But there are other people like senior Jennifer Englhart, foreign exchange student, who just love Christmas so much that they don’t mind.
“I simply love everything about Christmas, so the earlier they start, the better it is for me. I don’t mind at all if they start right after Halloween,” she said..
“It still makes the whole idea about the birth of Jesus too commercialized. People start to care more about to buy the best candy and the best presents than about the original idea of Christmas,” Reynolds said.
And she is right. With all the commercialism, the specials, the decoration and the food, we almost forgot about what Christmas is really about: being together with your family and being grateful for what you have.
