This week, the freshman book club delved into “Salt to the Sea,” a historical novel by author Ruta Sepetys. Under the watchful eye of their teacher, who graded their participation as they discussed, the students tackled themes of survival and loss during World War II. “It’s intense but fun,” Hunter, one of the club’s members, said. “We’re uncovering parts of history we didn’t know about, and it’s cool to hear everyone’s perspectives—though we definitely have to stay on topic with our teacher listening in.”
