On Tuesday, I watched “Halloween” from 1978, and it was amazing. To start, the horror in this movie was okay; there’s a couple really good scares in this movie that got me to jump in my seat and other scenes had me scared. Overall, the horror in the film is not too bad you can’t watch it with younger people. It’s definitely a perfect film to watch if you want some thrills but also to sleep at night.
I loved the pacing of the story and how it never lingered on anything for too long but long enough to appreciate every part of it. The main story was solid. It was easy to understand but not dumbed down and was very appealing and intriguing. I never found myself bored in the movie; I was always anticipating or intrigued.
The sound design in this movie was outright stunning. Truly the sound design in this movie is a work of art, from the very first intro scene it’s a catchy yet offsetting and creepy piano riff that is later used to signify when Micheal is there and it is not only a wonderful way to tell you what’s happening without having it blatantly in your face and breaking immersion, it also sets the tone very effectively. When the theme creeps up during a scene you feel the fear and anticipation through the scene and it puts you on the edge of your seat.
The writing in this movie is kind of spotty and breaks immersion a few times but it’s well enough to look past and kind of just adds to the charm. The acting as well is okay, Laurie’s actor knocked it out of the park with her fear being well felt and conveyed, the other actors are okay. The line deliveries can be iffy but overall, it’s never too bad.
The camera work in this film on the other hand was gorgeous. Every shot is filmed with purpose and grace, and it immerses you so much into the film. It creates so many iconic and beautiful scenes that completely pulls you in and traps you in the horror. Overall, this movie is a very beautiful film with many positive aspects, and I recommend it if you want a good scare.
