The mens swim team competed in the North Kansas City School District Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept.20 and 21. This meet was fast, full of new personal bests, state consideration times, as well as some state qualifying times.
“I’m so proud of our guys for coming out and putting the effort in and putting out great times,” captain senior Ben Place said.
This effort was prevalent in the 100 free race. Junior Christopher Lynn, sophomore Jack Salyer, and freshman Levi Salyer all recorded personal bests. Lynn and Levi Salyer also set new personal bests in the 200 free, and Jack Salyer in the 50 free. Lastly sophomore Niko Nakahodo earned himself a new personal best in the 100 breaststroke.
The next high point of the meet was two swimmers earning State Consideration Times in their races. Sophomore Tynan Meyer and junior Xavier Cavanaugh earned State Consideration Times in the 500 free and the 100 breaststroke.
The real star of the meet was in the relay races. The 200 medley relay as well as the 400 free relay both consisting of Place, Cavanaugh, Meyer, and sophomore Ty McKinnis earned themselves a ticket to state with their qualifying time.
“Our relays are in a really, really good spot right now. We’re faster than we were at state last year, right now,” Place continues, “I’m really proud of the work that the guys have been putting in right now and in the off season, and so we’re at a really good place for what time it is in the season.”
This weekend the team will take on the COMO Swim Invitational, where they look forward to another opportunity to set fast times recorded ahead of the conference, district, and the eventual state meet.
