Holiday favorites shared

In America, Christmas and Thanksgiving are the most popular holidays, statistically. According to statista.com/topics, 85% of America celebrates Christmas. Most people like Christmas because of the gift giving and receiving and others like it for the feelings it brings.

Sophomore Lyndsey Robinett said her favorite holiday is “Fourth of July because my neighbors have a big party and have had traditions of buying bouncy houses and setting off a bunch of fireworks in my cul-de-sac and there’s a lot of food.”

Sophomore Allie Vanderbeek said her favorite holiday is “Easter because I go to my aunt’s house, and we all bring a dish and eat them we all go Easter egg hunting and because me and my siblings are the only kids, we get all the eggs.”

Some people travel for the holidays and others don’t. About 85 million people travel each year for the holidays, so about 33 to 34% of Americans travel for the holidays according to mitevhnews.com.

“Every once in a while, we’ll go to Iowa for Christmas and or Easter and sometimes New Year’s,” Robinett said,

Vanderbeek said, “I used to go to New Jersey, but I don’t anymore.”

Some people like Christmas for the movies because they are most always happy and family friendly. According to bestlifeonline.com/best-holiday-movie/, the most viewed holiday movie in America is “Home Alone.”

Vanderbeek said at her house the favorite movie is “’Elf’ because we only had that DVD in our car for three months and we watched it like three million times and now my whole family has it memorized.”

Robinett said her favorite Christmas movie is “’Nightmare before Christmas’ because it’s unique and entertaining and it has a really good soundtrack and it’s creative.”

Other people like the holidays for the songs. The top holiday song in America is, “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carrey, according to usa.today.com.

Robinett’s favorite Christmas song is “’Silent Night’ because I like the key change.”

And lastly, some like the holidays for the food. The most popular holiday foods include peppermint bark, stuffing, dressing, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, latkes, green bean casserole, pigs in a blanket, roast potatoes, roast carrots, eggnog, cranberry sauce, and cookies, according to recipies.howstuffworks.com and goodto.com/food,

Vanderbeek said, “My uncle makes applesauce cake; and it’s so good and I eat almost the whole thing each time.”
