Crying for all of the souls

Amanda Carter was 14-years-old on one of the most tragic days in the U.S. She had just gotten to her homeroom class at North Kansas City High School when tragedy struck. She would usually be reading or drawing, and instead she watched as the twin towers fell.

Even though she had not known anyone that was at the scene, she could not help but start crying for all of the souls that had gone through something terrible.

She watched the first responders with awe as she saw them rush into the burning tower, running to save people. She said it was horrific for her to see this attack play out in real time, see people die in real time.

That day reminds her that things can change at a moment’s notice, she learned to be thankful for what she has, that it can easily go away.

“I hope kids today understand that these terrible things are not a reflection as a whole on the Muslim community,” she said.
