March for Community Service Hours

March of Dimes Development Manager shows Oak Park how to get involved

March of Dimes is a special organization dedicated to helping families have healthy and happy babies.  The work that March of Dimes does has affected all of us even if you haven’t noticed.  This work includes raising money for various new immunizations to protect youth including but not limited to the Polio vaccine.

What’s better than having a March of Dimes office in Kansas City?  That office is looking for volunteers.  Specifically, young volunteers to help out in various events happening around town.  The next exciting time you can help out to gain some extra community service hours is April 22nd in Lawrence, Kansas for a March for babies walk/run and May 7th in Kansas City’s power and light district for another March for babies sponsored walk/run.  They are looking for volunteers to help out in various booths on both days but if talking to people is just not your thing then consider making a team and participate in the walk yourself!  March of Dimes is run on donations and volunteers from people all over the world and by participating, your donation goes to helping the March of Dimes organization find more new discoveries to make sure every baby has the chance to have a healthy normal life.

Listen to Development Manager Kathy Mohn talk about her experience with March of Dimes and how to get involved.  Mohn had her own experience of tragedy before working with M.o.D.  when she expectantly lost a baby through a miscarriage.  Years later she had 2 healthy babies and decades later now has healthy grandchildren.  Because of this experience she has been one of the most dedicated people to the cause that we had the pleasure to meet.

Kathy truly believes in the mission just like many people around Kansas City and even Oak Park High School.  Whether you were affected directly by pre-mature birth or know someone who was, it is more common than people believe. Not only is having a pre-mature birth common but its most common in teen pregnancies.  March of Dimes works with families struck by this sudden life changing experience to make sure the parents are doing everything they can to have a healthy child no matter what your monetary status may be.
