NaNoWriMo Stats and Facts
NaNoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month, is an annual event wherein writers from around the world try to write a 50,000-word novel in just one month. To find more information and learn how you can participate, visit nanowrimo.org.
-The event started in 1999.
-NaNoWriMo is held in November every year, but there is also a summer event, and a Young Writer’s Program held also in November.
-In 2015, 489,025 people participated in NaNoWriMo in November.
-80,137 of those were students or educators.
-Over 1,000 libraries, bookstores, and other community locations held NaNoWriMo events throughout the world.
-The summer event, Camp NaNoWriMo, saw 57,402 participants in 2015.
-The NaNoWriMo organization gave out two thousand classroom kits to educators around the world in 2015, to help them use the Young Writer’s Program to teach.
-Books written during NaNoWriMo over the years include Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, and Cinder by Marissa Meyers.
-During NaNoWriMo 2016, users registered over 14 billion words on the word-count tool of the website.
