According to foxmovies.com, the film is about, “When Jake discovers clues to a mystery that spans alternative realities and times, he uncovers a secret refuge known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As he learns about the residents and their unusual abilities, Jake realizes that safety is an illusion, and danger lurks in the form of powerful, hidden enemies. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.”

My thoughts: The first thing that I would say about this movie is that you should read the book that the movie is based on, which is by Ransom Riggs. I feel like reading it will help you understand what’s going on in the movie better. I’ve known about the book since it came out and finally read it last year, but I still felt a little confused with what was going on in the movie. I felt that the acting was pretty good, but I felt the actor playing Jake wasn’t as strong at the beginning of the film as he was later on.

One of the things l liked most about this movie was the visuals. If you are into Tim Burton’s movies and his imagery like I am, then you will appreciate this movie. All of the characters have unique costumes and abilities that pop out of the screen. I also enjoyed the characters Emma and Miss Peregrine, and felt that these actors did the best job in the movie.

If I had any complaints, it would be that a. the characters Emma and Olive are switched from the book (Emma had fire powers and Olive could float in the book) and b. that the movie feels too long. I feel that the plot could have been compressed down to something less than two hours, especially the last third of the movie. Other than that, I feel like people will really enjoy this movie, but more so if you are a Tim Burton fan and not as much for fans of the book.
