‘Blair Witch’ is a 2016 sequel to the 1999 film ‘The Blair Witch Project.’ The original film was a found footage “documentary” which was based around a group of three college students who went to the Black Hills Woods to film a documentary about the legend of the Blair Witch and ended up missing. In this film, one of the student’s brother, James, has discovered a YouTube video that appears to show that his sister is still alive 20 or so years later. His friend Lisa decides to use this as an idea for her college documentary, and so they head back out to the Black Hills Forest with their friends Peter and Ashley.
On the outsides of the forest, they meet the two people who uploaded the video, Lane and Talia, who will show them where they found this footage if they will let them join on their trip inside the forest. The group agrees and they all begin their journey.
Things seem fine at first, but once night falls, the group begins to hear strange noises. And when they wake up, they realize they’ve overslept until two in the afternoon and discover a large number of creepy bundles of sticks hanging above their camp site. What they don’t realize is that these are only some of the strange and frightening things that will happen to them while in the woods.
This is about as much that can be said without spoiling the movie, so I will leave it at that. I noticed that this movie was getting bad reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, which was a little surprising. While I do feel like the first movie was better (and should be watched before you see this movie), I felt like it still was really enjoyable.
I felt like the acting was great and felt genuine, and it was really interesting to see an entire movie that was shot with ear-piece cameras and the occasional drone. I felt that there was a great amount of scares, especially during the last twenty to thirty minutes. This is definitely one of those movies you go see with a friend. However, I do feel that it maybe was a little too similar to the first film, and that the beginning of this movie was a little slow. But otherwise, I feel that this would be a great movie to see during the Halloween season and is worth taking the time to see, as long as you go in with an open mind.
