Who let the dogs out?
It would seem like your average Friday at Oak Park….if you don’t count all the dogs running around. Seniors Leah Israel and Karli Reichert created a fund raiser to raise money for KC Pet Project, and have allowed students to pay three dollars to pet and play with multiple dogs.
“In leadership we had to do passion projects, and Karli and I’s passion are puppies,” said Israel. “So we first wanted to do something with KC Pet Project and we were gonna try and bring in their dogs but and hopefully get some of them adopted and raise money for them.”
Israel and Reichert were unable to get the dogs from KC Pet Project, due to the fact that they have open adoption and never really know what dogs they have and when, but Israel and Reichert came up with a quick solution.
“I went around and asked some teachers if they had good dogs that can play with other dogs and play with people,” said Reichert. “Then we just had to get it approved with Mr. Maus, and make sure everyone had permission slips and and just go through that process.”
Many students say they love the idea of the fund raiser and the cause it’s going to support.
“I think this is a wonderful fundraiser,” said junior Clifton Wilkerson. “It gives students a time to be with themselves and enjoy time with the dogs and get away from the normal stress of school.”
Within only two blocks, the fundraiser has already earned more than $200 in donations.
Have a free block later? Come down and support the KC Pet Project and play with some dogs.
