Carson’s Poetry: To My Loving Mother
Carson Egbert, Log Photography Editor|December 11, 2015
To my loving mother.
You gave me the name Natalie in hopes that one day I would be the Perfect
Sweet
Precious
Little angel you always wanted.
Natalie
Gender- Female
From the Late Latin name Natalia,
which meant “Christmas Day” from Latin natale domini.
Today you asked me why the boy in my 2nd hour history class
told his mother that my name was Carson.
Carson
Gender- Both
In Middle English and Scottish car, carre (marsh, mossy place),
from the Welsh caer (a fort), and from the Gaelic carr (rock).
I told you it’s what I went by because it sounded nice.
What I forgot to mention was that Carson is a gender neutral name.
A name meaning Fort in Welsh
and Rock in Gaelic.
A strong name with a feminine sound.
I never dared to utter the words
gender
neutral.
Afraid you would turn up your nose and scoff
Saying that I will always be your daughter.Your
Perfect
Sweet
Precious
Daughter.
Not your “Son”.
