Cub Scouts Visit OP News
From fire building to TV anchoring, On Tuesday night Kindergarten through 3rd grade Cub scouts traveled to OPTV’s station to learn the basics of running a show and journalism. The scouts went through 3 stations of Newspaper writing, Technical Director and Anchor.
At Newspaper writing they were able to use a paper template and write about their experience. This was a great activity to talk about journalism at our school and how they can get involved when they’re a student here.
At Technical director the cubs were able to control the light board, soundboard and tri-caster. They picked up on the tri-caster fairly quickly pushing as many buttons and talking through the headset. Over on the light board they learned how to properly light a station for anchoring.
Our anchors also wear mics and play music before the show. They learned how to turn on and off the music and adjust the levels. Next, they got to read their own script and anchor. They were very shy but ended up enjoying themselves.
Overall I think they had a great time. This was a great opportunity for them and our school. Hopefully they will remember this experience so when they come to high school they’ll sign up for The Axe and other journalism branches. They’ll already have a little insight on how to run a TV Station.
