Music Review: Lambert releases her ‘Secrets’
It is one of the most inspiring records of the decade. Mary Lambert recently released her single entitled “Secrets”; this upbeat modern pop tune is already topping the charts. Along with the single on Oct. 14, the rest of her album entitled “Heart On My Sleeve” dropped.
Lambert is most familiarly known for singing the hook in Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Same love.” Her single is even better. Lambert said “Secrets” is about loving yourself but also is much more complicated.
“There is so much shame and guilt in our society, and I think it has deprived a lot of people from living fully,” Lambert said. She wanted to write a song that is about “self empowerment and challenging beauty standards.”
By listening to this single, it makes you want to get up and scream the lyrics while dancing. “I don’t care If the world knows what my secrets are” is the empowering chorus. It says a lot, it reassures you to not care what others may think. “Secrets” is exactly what it says, Mary Lambert singing her ideas, quirky love for “cat earring’s and mom jeans” and that its okay to “cry a whole day.”
