Trendy and Tasty with Sam Belcourt: Café Gratitude
blog by: Sam Belcourt
Upon entering this trendy restaurant the first thing I noticed was the unique layout. I knew from that moment that Café Gratitude was going to be an experience. The kitchen was located in the back of the restaurant in a box like shape yet it was short enough that you could see the staff. I was seated a few minutes after arriving.
The menu was unique, each item had a name such as “I am revitalized” or “I am happy” with a quick description underneath. I had the “you are present” sweet potatoes with Pico de Gallo and the “you are comforted” bruschetta. The sweet potatoes were creamy and not at all greasy which made them all the more enjoyable. The Pico de Gallo had a spice in it that complimented the potatoes well, I don’t like tomatoes by themselves but this Pico was so scrumptious I gobbled the leftovers all up.
The first thing I noticed about the bruschetta was the slight hint of garlic in the bread, the balsamic vinaigrette ratio was as good as it gets, they didn’t douse it but they didn’t skimp either.
Instead of chopped up finger bites of bruschetta I prefer whole pieces as it is less messy and one can appreciate the flavors together and separate. The balls of spreadable mozzarella were light and rich, like practically all of the other ingredients here: locally sourced and organic.
For dessert I had the “I am blissful” chocolate hazelnut pie. The top layer of hazelnut melts in the mouth and the chocolate wasn’t too intense but was tasty with the groundnut crust. This dessert has a cashew base and is vegan; the most savory part of this treat was the chocolate bits on top, yum!
Bonus points for creativity, the sink handle looks like an old west pump and the basin has unique designs with vibrant colors. While this restaurant does have lip-smacking food it is not for everyone, first off it is a vegetarian facility meaning no meat at all. But it does cater to a diverse clientele since they do serve gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options. Come here with an open mind and you wont regret it, at least try the dessert!
