The 2010 Lady Oakies volleyball team is pumped and ready for this season. They have been preparing all summer long by attending weight lifting sessions, early morning conditioning, and open gyms. Some girls were even invited by the coaches to represent Oak Park in a League Night to play other schools.
A week before school started, head coach Candy McCall held try outs. The girls who were chosen to be on this year’s freshmen, JV, and varsity teams have had many practices and scrimmages to get ready for their first game, which was Tues, August 31st.
“I’d actually like to make it far this year and possibly make it to districts,” says senior Hayley Norris, one of the 3 seniors on the team. “It’s really exciting but it seems like not many seniors at all.”
The team also has to adjust to not having one of their varsity players for most of the season.
“I did a lot of preparing for the season by going to the open gyms, some of the conditioning and varsity team camp and summer league, so it disappointed me when I found out I broke my ankle at the first practice of the season,” says sophomore Amber Hemmie.
