As students sat and enjoyed the final minutes of the first assembly of the year, the unexpected happened when instead of heading out of the gym, and into their first weekend of the 2010-2011 school year, they were paraded into the hallway.
After a tornado warning was reported in the area, the whole of North Kansas City Schools were forced to take cover in their designated areas until the storm had a chance to pass.
From approximately 2:15 and 2:55 the students of Oak Park were seated in the hallway, taking cover while teachers and administrators monitored the situation and kept in contact with central office.
As the students were finally released around three o’clock, the students piled out the doors and into the first weekend of the new year.

I think the whole tornado warning after the assembly was an interesting way to start the first weekend of the school year. Nobody really knew what to expect. Some of us were in the locker rooms, and being in there was kind of crowded. This experience is definately something that I will remember for a while.
