Pommies go to states!

This past weekend, the pommies competed at state competition in St. Louis, which wrapped up the pommie season for the 2014-2015 year. Axe member Sam Sander sat down with senior Pommie Sammi Shafar and asked her a few questions over state competition and the end of her pommie career.

Q: Are you satisfied with how your very last state competition season went?

A: Yes I am very satisfied! We got 4th overall in our division out of 16 teams. We got first in our mixed dance and 5th in our jazz dance. We worked so hard for those honors, and it was such an achievement for us.

Q: What would you say is your favorite memory from past state competitions?

A: My favorite memory would have to be getting to room with the other seniors at state in our hotel this year. It was one of our last times together so I really cherish that memory.

Q: What do you feel has been the biggest accomplishment for the pommies this year?

A: Our biggest accomplishments were mastering our turning sections, making everything super full out in both of our dances, and beating Tonka.

Q: What are you going to miss the most about being a pommie?

A: I’m going to miss so much. I will miss the girls, the great coaches, getting to perform at school event, and just dancing in general. This is my last year to ever dance so I will really miss it.

Q: Are you going to continue your dance career after high school or is this it?

A: This is it. After 14 years of dancing I am sadly done.
