As cheerleading tryouts commenced on Monday, Nov. 12 through Wednesday, Nov. 14, nobody was safe from being cut from the team. Despite the high risks, the girls were confident in giving their best performances for the coaches.
“I am confident in my performance for the coaches and I think I have a good chance of making the team,” said Jordyn Vega.
On day one of tryouts the girls learned a variety of jumps, motions, and cheers. Sophomore Lenia Lise said, the girls put their best foot forward in order to achieve their goals. Some pushed their limits to make the squad, others attempted to “up” their position from JV to Varsity, while some just tried to keep their spot.
“I am trying to move from JV to the varsity team,” Lise said.
Day two, the girls learned the fight song and worked on their tumbling skills. In day three, the girls’ last practice before tryouts, the coaches went over everything that happened during the clinics. Girls were set into the stunt groups that they would go to tryouts with.
“We are going to re-elect captains once the cuts are made, but I’m not nervous,” said senior Christina Fields.
As Thursday, Nov. 15 rolled around the corner, the girls prepared their stunts, jumps, cheers and tumbling skills to perform for the coaches to make a final decision. Out of approximately 40 girls who tried out to represent the school’s cheer team, 30 girls made the team. It was a long process that the girls endured, the tryout process and the three days of clinics.
