On Monday, August 27, the girls tennis team competed in a match against St. Jo Central. Both JV and varsity teams won. Northmen News caught up with coach Tana Stock to ask about her coaching experience and hopes for the rest of the season.
Northmen News: How long have you been coaching tennis?
Tana Stock: 29 [years].
NN: How long have you been playing tennis?
TS: Since 2nd grade.
NN: What is the best part about coaching tennis?
TS: You get to know the players more than just a student.
NN: Do you coach any other sport?
TS: No.
NN: How would you describe the team this year?
TS: Good, but some hard challenges.

This is Mann’s third year playing for the team. “[My favorite part of tennis is] the team unity” Said Mann, “Even though you’re out on your own during a singles match, you are still part of a team who is working together to pull out a win.”
Sophomore Lauren Sullivan prepares to hit the tennis ball. This is Sullivan’s first year playing for the school team. “[This season is] so much fun.” Sullivan said, “We’re like a big family.”
Junior Margarita Araiza watches the ball after it is hit. Araiza played the number one varsity spot for this match. “Sammy [Junior Samantha Mann] was like ‘well I play tennis and it’s really fun.’ So I tried it and that’s how I started playing tennis.” Araiza said.
