Take a moment, and think of how drastically your life could change in days. Imagine taking on a deadly disease, in which no one has ever heard of before, unknowingly spreading it to your friends, family, and co-workers, and within days, having it become a worldwide pandemic.
In “Contagion”, directed by Steven Soderbergh, Beth Emhoff, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, goes on a business trip to Hong Kong, and gets the disease there. While ignorant about the disease, she passes it onto everyone she comes in contact with over the next few days. The storyline is cool, and it makes you think a lot, which I liked.
While watching this movie, I mentally compared it to what I thought to be a different movie with a similar concept. The first movie that came to mind was “The Day After Tomorrow”. Although the storylines are different, they had the same concept; that something, whether it be a deadly disease, or the weather, takes over the world within days and kills off a harsh amount of people.
The movie moves quickly at times, making it somewhat hard to grasp onto. Being a teenager with a short attention span, sometimes I get distracted at movies. There were a few times that my mind would wander, and a few seconds later I would be lost in terms of knowing what was happening during the movie.
Overall, “Contagion” was a very good movie, and I give it two thumbs up. The storyline is incredible, and unless you watch until the last minute of the movie, you second-guess yourself on how you think the entire pandemic started. The actors were cool, the death scenes even cooler, and overall, the movie rocked.
