As all journalism students know this past Wednesday was JDay, journalism day, and Oak Park High School competed in several competitions winning several events.  However, the big award went to OP’s own journalism teacher, Christina Geabhart.

Geabhart, or Mrs.G as the students call her, is president of MIPA, Missouri Interscholastic Press Association, and oversees JDay to make sure everything runs smoothly.  Her dedication to not only her students at OP, but future journalists all over the state of Missouri was recognised during the award ceremony when she was honored with the Knight Award.

The Knight award is given to a person who has been outstanding in serving scholastic or minority journalism.  Specifically a person who allows students to use their First Amendment rights of free expression and speech and actively encourages students to be creative in journalistic writings or broadcasts.

“Anyone who knows Mrs. G knows she is more than deserving of this award and everyone on the OP publication staffs has continued to be proud of her and her accomplishments. We would like to formally congratulate Geabhart and thank her for being an amazing adviser.  Without her we wouldn’t have been so successful ourselves.”
